Maps Altimeter Support

Install the beta, complete Android's one-time approvals, and use Google Maps normally.

Set it up once.

  1. Download the signed APK.
  2. Open it and allow your browser or Files app to install unknown apps if Android asks.
  3. Open Maps Altimeter and grant Location.
  4. Tap Enable Accessibility and turn on Altimeter Overlay.
  5. Open Google Maps navigation or a supported dropped pin.

If Accessibility is restricted.

Open Android Settings → Apps → Altimeter Overlay → the three-dot menu → Allow restricted settings. Then return to Accessibility and enable Altimeter Overlay.

What has been tested.

Live testing covers Android 9 and Android 12 with Google Maps, including light and dark navigation, changing guidance banners, expanded media controls, dropped pins, and overlay removal outside supported screens.

Include the useful details.

Send your phone model, Android version, Google Maps version, whether Location and Accessibility are enabled, the screen where the pill should have appeared, and a screenshot with personal route details removed if necessary.
