Maps Altimeter Privacy Policy

Effective August 29, 2026

Maps Altimeter is an Android add-on developed by Hominocentra Systems. It does not require an account and does not include advertising or an analytics service.

Location and terrain lookup

While a supported overlay is active, the app uses the phone's location—or the coordinate of a supported dropped pin—to request terrain elevation from Open-Meteo. That request necessarily includes latitude and longitude. Nearby results are cached on the device to reduce repeated requests.

Accessibility access

The Accessibility service detects supported Google Maps navigation, coordinate, and dropped-pin screens and places a non-touchable overlay beside the relevant interface. It is not used to operate Google Maps controls or collect text for advertising or profiling.

Screen sampling

On supported newer Android versions, the app may sample the current Google Maps screen locally to match light or dark styling. Those pixels are used for visual styling and are not uploaded or retained as screenshots by Maps Altimeter.

Device-altitude fallback

If terrain data is unavailable, the app may use pressure-sensor or Android location-altitude data locally. Fallback readings are shown in italic so they are distinguishable from terrain data.

Independent product
